sunshine

Spring is right around the corner. I can feel it. I bought bright green floral throw pillows yesterday at Marshall's to celebrate and boy do they make my living room look so much happier! I shot this picture this morning just as the sun was starting to make its way across the room. I can't wait to be home and curled up on those new squishy pillows. But first I need to run to the bookstore to pick up the third and fourth books in the Twilight series. My friend Suzy has me hooked!

"Frenemies"

Well, after a little time away at a geeky decorative arts conference in Colonial Williamsburg, I'm back to work and trying to finish the laundry, put away the suitcases, and settle back into normal life. Monday night and one of my new guilty pleasures is on television: The City. I'm a sucker for the young angst-ridden shows like The Hills and now this spin-off.

And what video should pop up today but the latest political spin-off of this same forumla done up by Newsweek: The District. Love it! And here I thought politics was just for boring grownups.

back to basics

I've been aware over the past few months (mainly after reading In Defense of Food) that I eat too many processed "foods". In my defense, I do eat a lot of whole foods (veggies, beans, etc.) but when it comes to breads I was buying your basic sliced whole wheat version at the supermarket without a second thought.

Now, I am going to admit right out that I will likely never be the kind of person to make her own bread. I just don't have the patience no matter how "easy" everyone says it is. But, living in a town that actually has a bakery, I really have no excuse to keep buying the processed loaves shipped from who-knows-where.

So the last time I needed a loaf I stopped by Eileen's in downtown Fredericksburg and purchased one of their oat wheat loafs that they sliced for me right there, bagged, and I was on my way home for less than a supermarket loaf cost. I feel better. And boy, does it taste better!
