Veggie patch update

I officially harvested my second zucchini yesterday. And the third is just a day or two away. Now I just need to decide what to do with it. I think I may wait a little too long to harvest - this latest one is ginormous and I don't remember seeing other peoples' zucchinis this big. Or maybe I'm just an amazing gardener.

On the eggplant front, however, I'm still battling the flea beetles (see all those holes in the leaves?) and I fear that they will destroy any eggplants I do get. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Hard to do when the cutest little white eggplant buds are starting to appear.

By the giant point they're not much good for anything but shredding and baking (but I have a good, lowfat zucchini bread recipe if you want it).

Pick them tiny and saute!

Mmmm...zucchini! I'm kinda craving that right now. I'm jealous that you can just walk out your back door and pick them whenever you want!

Giant zucchini are great for stuffing, cut it in half lengthwise and spoon out the seeds. Stuff in a little ground turkey, some rice, diced tomatoes, italian seasoning, bake. Tasty!

Try planting catnip next to your eggplant, the bugs hate the smell.

Thanks for all the hints, ladies. I may try to track down catnip at the farmers' market tomorrow to do some companion planting. I'll be so sad if I lose all my eggplants!

I can remember as a kid, my parents had a vegetable garden and a couple times a zucchini escaped notice until it was like a baseball bat! But stuffed zucchini sounds goooood!
