I like to dip them in salsa. I like to dip them in hummus. I like to eat them with a big taco salad. I like to eat them with guacamole. Tortilla chips are light and crispy and salty. What's not to love?! In an effort to eat and buy less processed foods (that's why I bake my own bread for goodness sake), I've started making my own baked tortilla chips. Slice and bake. Really.
Homemade tortilla chips = Corn tortillas + Cooking spray + Salt + An Oven
Take a quantity of small corn tortillas (you buy these in a bulk bag in the refrigerated section of the grocery store). Cut or fold/break into triangular chips (or long slices, or funny shapes). Place on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Spray top of chips with cooking spray and sprinkle with salt (and other flavors if you'd like). Place in a 350 degree oven. Bake, turning once, until golden brown (about 15 minutes). Serve hot.
Monetarily is it worth it? Don't know. But they taste a whole lot better than the readily-available 'baked' versions and feel a whole lot healthier than the fried versions. (Plus, as a single gal do I really need a big bag of chips laying around?) One less processed food I have to buy. Now if only I could figure out how to make my own butter.

I do the exact same thing and they are SO good. I usually eat mine hot from the toaster oven and plain I like them so much.
I make my own pita chips with leftover pita. Those work well. I'll have to try the tortilla chips next time I buy corn tortillas.
How much easier can you get. I like to do the same thing with flour tortillas.
Oh my gosh you can sooooo make your own butter. That's going on the list of fun activities for us to do.
Hey, I have all those things right now. I'm going to try this! Thanks!
I could so go for those with that guac!
